Baby Najma's Story
Najma is a thin small baby with a beautiful but serious face, as if she knows something is very wrong, even at 9 months old. Her father, Omar Faroogh, has been a night teacher at the House of Flowers orphanage in Kabul for nearly three years. Every week he spends 5-6 nights at the orphanage, taking care of 27 children that are not his own. But his own daughter is in desperate need of immediate help. A few months ago, Omar Faroogh and his wife learned that Najma was born with a major congenital heart defect – her heart is on the right-hand side, and the two upper chambers as well as the two valves are very seriously malformed. At 9 months old she weighs only 5.1 kg (about 12 pounds) and has not been able to gain weight since she was 6 months old. They have been told by the clinic that diagnosed her, as well as a cardiologist from Los Angeles, that major surgery as soon as possible is crucial for her survival.
We would like to raise money to be able help Omar Faroogh and his wife take their daughter to get the care she needs. The surgery alone in Delhi has been estimated to cost around $3500, and additional expenses would include transportation and housing. Total expenses would probably be around $5000.
This family’s situation is dire, and yet with support from caring people, Omar Faroogh and his wife can get help for their daughter and they will also benefit by knowing that there are people in the world whom they don’t even know, yet who care deeply about them and their daughter. This is what changes the world.
